Dr Caroline Musselwhite delivered a full-day seminar on Literacy for All: Language, Literacy, Learning and Emergent Writing for Students with Disabilities at the 2009 Study Day, held in Dunfermline.

Dr Musselwhite, an assistive technology specialist from Arizona, USA began the day with a look at the Six Conditions for Literacy:

Knowledgeable Other

Means of Communication / Interaction

Repetition with Variety

Cognitive Engagement / Active Participation

Cognitive Clarity

Personal Connection with the Curriculum
She went on to discuss Phonemic Awareness and introduced some Phonics ‘Tests’.
In the afternoon she presented ideas for introducing writing and a number of fun activities for developing writing skills.
