NHS Ayrshire and Arran AAC Resource
The AAC Resource supports communication impaired children and adults in Ayrshire and Arran who require to access alternative or augmentative communication systems. It is based at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine and funded by NHS Ayrshire and Arran. It is staffed by one half-time Speech and Language Therapist and has a large loan bank of communication aids used for assessment and trial.
Services offered include: assessment, advice, support, equipment loans, training, review and reassessment, reporting for/ attendance at appropriate client review meetings, transition planning etc. as required. Referrals can be made through education; social work; doctor; parent or relative; self-referral but in practice most commonly come through speech and language therapy. Onward referral may be made to SCTCI for access to a wider loan bank of resources.
